Under the Surface
Each summer, young explorers from Northwest Passage set out for adventures that few have experienced. They bravely submerge themselves in rivers and lakes to learn about and document underwater ecosystems. The stunning photographs that result from these expeditions have been featured in books, films, and witnessed by over one million people at exhibits around the United States. These photographs represent the kids' exploration and discovery of the underwater world, and of themselves.

Trapped and I can’t get out
It seems easy to get out
But I can’t
The waves are pushing me down
People are saying “get up”
But I can’t
I am trapped
About Alex: "My name is Alex. I am at Northwest Passage because I have trauma I have to cope with and I need help. I like shopping, reading, drawing, and painting. I really enjoy under water photography, because for me it is calming. At first it was scary for me because I had to use a snorkel which I have never used before, and new things can be hard. "
