Under the Surface
Each summer, young explorers from Northwest Passage set out for adventures that few have experienced. They bravely submerge themselves in rivers and lakes to learn about and document underwater ecosystems. The stunning photographs that result from these expeditions have been featured in books, films, and witnessed by over one million people at exhibits around the United States. These photographs represent the kids' exploration and discovery of the underwater world, and of themselves.

"Battle Scar" by Neil, 16 | Under the Surface 2019
We rarely discover behavior from two species together such as the crayfish and the smallmouth bass. It was very special to me because the two stuck around long enough for me to take a picture. I saw the smallmouth leave the fight with a scar across the bottom of its eye.
About Neil: My name is Neil and I came to Passage because I struggled with addiction and involvement with the law. I was going down a tough road before coming to Passage. Coming here has helped me find a passion for photography and an appreciation for nature and being outdoors. I love music and art as well as sports and being active. I think that being at Passage has helped me find a route to a successful future.
