Under the Surface
Each summer, young explorers from Northwest Passage set out for adventures that few have experienced. They bravely submerge themselves in rivers and lakes to learn about and document underwater ecosystems. The stunning photographs that result from these expeditions have been featured in books, films, and witnessed by over one million people at exhibits around the United States. These photographs represent the kids' exploration and discovery of the underwater world, and of themselves.

"I Matter" by Jayden, 16 | Under the Surface 2019
Out of all the fish I’ve seen, this one made himself known. I wasn’t looking for fish, but out of nowhere, he attacked my camera. It was almost like he was saying “Hey! Please show me affection! I matter, right?” And he does, so do we all.
About Jayden: My name is Jayden. I came to Northwest Passage to work on building positive relationships and to work on criminal thinking patterns. Some of my hobbies include drawing, writing, playing guitar, and singing. To succeed when I leave Passage, I plan on going to school and getting a job. When I have spare time I plan on doing photography in state parks. I love photography and I hope to incorporate it in everyday life.
