Under the Surface
Each summer, young explorers from Northwest Passage set out for adventures that few have experienced. They bravely submerge themselves in rivers and lakes to learn about and document underwater ecosystems. The stunning photographs that result from these expeditions have been featured in books, films, and witnessed by over one million people at exhibits around the United States. These photographs represent the kids' exploration and discovery of the underwater world, and of themselves.

"Peekaboo" by Alexis, 17 | Under the Surface 2015
I took my first breath underwater and it was a whole new world. When you go underwater it's like a city with so many plants and fish that it's hard to fathom. They're all working together, just as humans do. Being underwater is beautiful.
About Alexis: "Hi my name is Alexis, I am 17 years old. I came to Northwest Passage due to legal and family issues. The IaNL programming has helped me express myself in a very positive way. I am able to write about my feelings through poetry which is amazing. I didn't think I could ever do that. It has sparked a wonderful new world for me."
