"Sand in the Waves" by Lexie, 16 | Under the Surface 2015
When I am underwater I am able to leave behind the part of myself that wants to control everything and make everything perfect and I can just go with it. From being underwater, I learned its okay to just experience things and focus on the here and now. When I first explored underwater I was in awe, and I had a euphoric feeling when I got my first amazing photo. I was energized and felt like there wasn't enough time in the world to discover everything down there. There are so many little things that we pass by because we're not really paying attention and we're moving from day to day without really cherishing life.
About Lexie: "My name is Lexie and I'm 16 years old. I'm currently residing at Northwest Passage Prairieview, due to drug addiction and severe depression. Both of which have not only affected me but my loved ones and community as well. My ultimate goals in life are to find true happiness, and change lives around me for the better. Before Passage, I had an interest in photography, but with the new opportunities Passage has provided, my photography outlet has grown enormously. I enjoy it much more than I had before. While here, my plan is to overcome my addiction and find healthy ways to cope with my depression. It's been a struggle but with a lot of perseverance and hard work I know I can reach my dreams."
