Newest Light, Prairieview: Lexie, 15 - "All of the Lights"
Longing for something new, something cool, is what started it all. The unspoken promises of freedom, love, and a one-way free ticket to the top, an everlasting euphoria. Beauty, is what I saw. And maybe it’s what I got, too. Well, for a short while at least. But, once I was in, I was in… Coming back to the boring, to the uneventful life I once lived before wasn’t an option that I even conjured possible. So I ran. Ran from those trying to help, from the fear of changing the world I created. To leaving my world would be like leaving the mother’s womb and being thrust into a new alien place, naked and afraid; Being reborn again. All of the lights tricked me. It mirrored what I thought I wanted and played it before me. It was lust that called for me with the serenade of an angel’s choir, but with further inspection I can now see the insidious beneath. Even months later the lights are still beautiful but in a new kind of way. And to the lights I say, “You were once a very big part of me. Goodbye Lights, you may now rest peacefully in my past.”
